It was a slow start and some of the elements that make it fantasy got lost on me!!! I was all in for the romance though!!!

Okay so fantasy is not my thing really…but for the popsugar challenge there are two prompts this book fills: a book about a dragon and a book with a genre you usually avoid. I figured I’d read this and iron flame to fit both of them but after finishing this one I’m not gonna be motivated enough to do the second book..so I’ll be counting it for both 🤣

Anyways, to be fair, the author warned about the profanity but it was just too much for me personally. Like it was just in the book for no other reason than to make it as much profanity as possible. It was just excessive.

I skipped over the steamy part as that’s not my cup of tea. Not for me lol.

There are WAY too many characters in this book. It was super confusing to keep everyone straight and who had what power and who was on Violet’s side and who was against her. I didn’t even particularly care whether she survived or not or if anyone did. Except the dragons. I wanted them to survive.

It tried too hard to try to be the Hunger Games but with dragons. Even ends with the same line Catching Fire ends with. A bunch of kids killing kids but this time there’s not really much explanation to it all.

The worst part of it all has nothing to do with the actual story so I didn’t deduct any stars for this, but the female narrator must have been sick when she recorded this because I kept hearing her gulp and sniff. It was super annoying and distracting. Why would you record an audiobook while you were sick??? It was gross!! That’s another reason why I’m not doing the second book.

I guess overall this book just wasn’t for me but I actually did like some of the concepts of the book like the dragons picking their humans and the training to be riders parts. So maybe I just need to find another book with dragons that I might enjoy more but is a little more PG-13. Any suggestions?

I really enjoyed this book! There were tons of clever twists and it’s easy to get lost in this fantasy world. I was surprised by the romance aspect but it’s good. Fourth Wing is worth the hype!

The story itself is phenomenal, but there is A LOT of language and several instances of graphic sexual content, which caused me to lower my rating.
