Lord have mercy, this book was incredibly painful. I did like the first quarter but then it became torturous. Minutiae with endless dialogue. I skimmed the last 2/3 of the book. I couldn't hardly stand it except I wanted to read it before the new movie adaptation came out.

I'm sure I'm missing the literary genius of it all. I appreciate that she wrote strong female characters that were fierce and against the norms of society at the time. I liked how she poked fun at everything. I liked hearing how Emma was misconstruing things yet she couldn't see it herself. If I were studying it maybe I would be more interested. I just didn't enjoy reading it for some reason. I'm not entirely put off; someone told me to read Persuasion. Apparently it is a better and tighter storyline. I'll give Jane Austen another go at some point.

I really liked the book, but I could predict all but one of the plot twists. AND I should have been able to predict the one. Overall though, Jane Austen really has a way with words and describing emotions and events. It made me feel like I was at Hartfield.

I am not in a position to rate Emma by Jane Austin on a scale from 1-5 stars, and neither are you.
