A twist I didn't expect. This is scary, tense, depressing, and I couldn't put it down. I appreciate the shift of point-of-views to keep you on your toes as well as to break up the really stressful parts.
Spoiler I feel so bad for Michael!! And Alice too!! I wanted nothing but the best for the two poor kids.

I was genuinely surprised by the way this book was written. Unlike a lot of thrillers, I found this one to be beautifully written, focusing more in depth on the characters and their feelings. It was dark, gore, disgusting, but I couldn’t put it down. It’s the type of book where you love to hate the characters. The end was chef kiss

Holy crap. Such a suspenseful, dark, atmospheric read. Had me hooked.

TW for ableism, homophobia and mysogyny, horror, blood and gore

This was my second time reading this horror novel. The first read was through the audiobook which was just as good. This is one that I feel will continue to run through my head, Ania Ahlbom did a beautiful job of keeping this within the horror genre without going to extremes. I love a good gore fest, but this story was more about the horrors of family and the evils that can lie within them. The themes of loyalty, good and bad are all expertly played. Even with the prior read I found I had remembered things differently than the first time I let the story envelop me, so it made for a similar satisfied feeling when I completed the book. I would recommend this for anyone who is starting into the horror genre and may not want something too gruesome as far and blood and gore.
