Exactly what I needed. Perhaps my favourite in the Quincunx so far?

I'm sure I don't understand how the quincunx books connect. this one is about a journey through small towns in Southern Ontario. the narrator, Alfred Homer, is a gentle young man who agrees to accompany Professor Bruno, a friend of Alfie's dead parents, on a quest to learn more about the poet John Skennen. But there's so much more involved than the search for Skennen. Strange things await in these towns and Alfie and the professor experience them very differently.

Lovely, as Alexis always is, and more of the surrealism I loved in Despair and Other Stories and haven’t seen since, but also, perhaps, a bit too firm of a gaze towards the navel.
