A beautiful story about telling (and hearing) stories in Morocco. It made me instantly want to learn Arabic and run off to the desert. It was a very difficult book to put down, and it really draws the reader in to the everyday (expat) life in Casablanca. Not the glory days of the town, but what it's like today, living in an old house and talking to old men over endless cups of black coffee. Charming!

In Arabian Nights was another wonderful book by Tahir Shah. It broadened my understanding of Moroccan culture and of the value of storytelling, while at the same time being highly entertaining. I will be re-reading this book at some point in the future!

An interesting book that sheds light on the unique culture in the Middle East and the power of storytelling. Shah's writing is intelligent and funny, and it's easy to see why he has fallen in love with the people of Morocco.
