Love the story, but…

This really needed a read through before being published. There are a LOT of typos to the point where it was distracting. I still really liked this book. The world building is great, and I love Lanis and Nessa.

Interesting new series

I found Ella Maven and this book because of the Drixonian warrior series. This new series has a different feel. The world building is interesting. The characters and setting are a fun mystery. I look forward to the next book.
Nothing beats the Drixonian warriors though!

3.5 // Fun read that is a sweet monster romance with some omegaverse and paranormal fantasy vibes.

What I loved:
I seriously loved the world building; particularly the swanky hotel and its collection of eccentric “guests” that we learn is ultimately a cover for their professions. The quirky side characters at the hotel were quite fun. And the way the author builds the tension with regards to what is hiding beneath the cloches the humans deliver to the patrons is done well.

What I didn’t love:
I struggled to like the FMC. I found some aspects of her personality annoying and a bit petulant. She doesn’t have much agency and part of that is tied to what she is, but it also makes her an accessory in her own story. I could feel an attempt at contrasting the “she’s treasured for what she is” rhetoric against those helping her simultaneously being dismissive of her but it doesn’t completely land. I did relish the couple of times she stands up for herself after learning the purpose of her existence.
