It's been a while since I visited Acorn Hills, but it's always like coming home to a familiar place filled with people you love. In this installment, Richard is finally ready to admit his feelings to the woman he loves, but not before he travels to Vietnam with Jordan and David to put the past behind him in the hope of getting over his PTSD. His sudden confession to Jillian hours before he gets on a plane leaves her in a quandary. Both David and Richard experience a moment of clarity while on their trip. Just when love seems to be within reach, a tragedy might keep these wonderful couples from attaining their happily ever afters. As always, Ms. Augustine pens a story rich in emotion and pathos. Beautifully told!

Life, Loss, and Love…

Richard returned to his home town after the Vietnam War. He’s lived his life there for the past thirty years. His friends and townspeople see the helpful, friendly, loving, and caring man. However, it’s what’s on the inside that’s not evident. Richard is haunted with tragic memories of his time in Vietnam.

He and Jillian are neighbors. They’ve each live in the same house they grew up in. Unbeknownst to Jillian, she has been the love of Richard’s life for as long as he can remember. Jillian loves Richard too, in a best friend kind of way. He’s the person Jillian relies on when times are bad, good, and everything in between. He’s always been there—ice cream and spoon in hand.

Still plagued by the past, there are times when Richard is consumed with depression and anger. Will Richard ever reach the other side of this never ending nightmare? Will he find the strength to finally confess his undying love to Jillian, or have the demons of the past come to stay?

I truly loved Richard’s story. If you haven’t read Richard’s Relics pick it up today. It will make you cry, laugh, and hope for this man’s happy ending.
