Solid entry into the series although it had the feel of a transitional novel. We learned a great deal about the background of a few main characters, had the return of a couple of favorites, plus saw a major development unravel. All-in-all a very good action-packed novel.

Man, this one was DEPRESSING. I love The Expanse novels, generally, but I have mixed feelings about this fifth in the series. Only four more to go... No spoilers, please.

Glad Bobbie was back. A pretty classic "split up the crew and watch shit go down" plot, but

humans bombarding Earth with planet-killers

is much less classic—even though I knew it was coming, it still hurt a bit.

Also gladdened by the ending of the epilogue,

wasn't looking forward to reading about that guy in the next book. Got enough terrible-person PoV in The Word for World is Forest to last me a while

.
