The true story of how a couple helped save elephants in Africa.
I knew this book would get me emotional and the ending got me all choked up.
This book tells the story of how a couple, who lived on protected land in Africa, took a chance with allowing some "angry" elephants to live with them. The bond between the couple and the elephants slowly builds and develops throughout the book. It was amazing to see this relationship and the drawings really added to the beauty of this story and its setting. The book teaches a great lesson about having compassion and patience with all animals...a lesson everyone needs to learn. I also appreciated the extra information about the reserve and how to donate to the Thula Thula charity.

3.5 stars! I loved the illustrations in this book. The fact this is based on a true story makes it more heart warming. Poaching elephants still happens today; it's great to teach kids through a story like this. I also learned more about Africa's wildlife and geography.

Oh, what a sweet story! This beautiful picture book about a couple living on a wildlife preserve in South Africa and a herd of elephants they helped save definitely got me in the feels. Hand this one to fans of Christian the Lion or Owen & Mzee or readers of books about human/animal relationships like Animals Welcome.

A man who loves animals and lives on a large sanctuary welcomes a small herd of elephants, gaining their trust. When he dies they return and have a vigil of sorts.
Lovely illustrations fit this pleasant story well.

Beautiful, beautiful story and wonderful illustrations. This would have been a favorite of mine if I had read it when I was little. The Elephants Come Home shows how intelligent elephants are, and it will definitely be on my list of books to purchase for animal-loving kids.
