I purchased this from a book fair at my school this spring based on students telling me that they thought it would be good. I like to read as many of the books that I have in my classroom as possible so I brought it home to read this summer. I really struggled to get into it at first but I did get into it and enjoyed the story. I'll be able to book talk it better now that I've read it.

Listened to the audiobook with libro.fm thanks to the educators account! I thought it was interesting and it had some funny parts, but I feel like it could have been longer and maybe more detailed. My son enjoyed it so I guess that's all that matters.

I know that I'm not this book's demographic but listening to this read by Kevin Hart was amazing. Greg and I laughed and laughed and the kids LOVED it too. I just don't want to forgot all of us listening to the big shoot in the hospital and learning all about why he was so adamant about the hospital scene and I just was crying. It just was so sweet. I think your kids will like reading this book - but if you want to read it - do the audio version for the Kevin Hart over the top inflection - just funny funny funny.

If you are a fan of Kevin Hart, then you will love this! I recommend listening to the audio because he narrates and his personality truly comes out. A kid who just wants to make a movie, the friends who somewhat helps him, and a life lesson of not giving up on your goals is what you get out of this book. Through it’s centered for younger generations, adults can grab nuggets out of this book too.

I received an audio ARC of this book through libro.fm and my son wanted to listen to it, so we did so together. Admittedly, I am not the target audience, and thought it was only okay (the writing was not particularly fabulous and the story could have used a couple of twists and turns to keep it from being mundane), but my son enjoyed it and thought it was very funny. It was a four-star read for him and probably a two-star read from me, so I'm rating it a 3.

I really enjoy Kevin Hart's work and I was excited to see he had written a book for kids. I listened to the audiobook with my kids and we all enjoyed it. He is always hilarious but he also manages to cover some not so funny (but important) topics in this book. The main character Marcus has lost a parent, experienced bullying and self doubt and learns the lesson that we all need help sometimes. He also manages to throw in some jokes and references that my kids didn't understand but I got a kick out of. It was super cute and I definitely recommend it.

Let's start with this... I'm a HUGE Kevin Hart fan. This book was everything I was hoping for it to be. Light, funny and wonderful.

I couldn't pass up the opportunity to listen to the audio read by.... of course... Kevin Hart. Man did I laugh. He is as funny on audio as he is in movies.

It's a short read, the audio is about 3 hours. The dialogue is short, fast, witty, and FUNNY. Marcus is a great character as well as the supporting cast. Lots of funny references that are situational funny if you are connecting the fact that this is KEVIN HART who is writing it. Lots of wink wink kind of funny about Hollywood references.

There are great messages about going for your dreams, what happens when you run into obstacles, supportive relationships, even tips on writing.

I am only an hour into the book but I know I will be buying it for the library and recommending it to students. I hope Kevin continues to write and particularly with Marcus.

[I received a free electronic review copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.]

4 stars = Great! Might re-read.

This is a lot of fun and has great "voice." The information about writing a screenplay (and writing in general) and making a movie is sound, but never heavy-handed. Marcus is a character you want to see learn and succeed. Some great humor here - you can really "hear" Kevin Hart in the writing. Don't miss this one!
