Went on a bender from a really good read to a really strange one very quickly.

I absolutely love time travel stories. This one reminded me a lot of Selden Edwards' The Little Book. At times it was a little confusing and hard to follow, but then when everything came together I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the historical fiction aspects of this time travel story and thought that Palma did a good job with this book.

This book went on and on. Some parts were good.

I really wanted to like it and it did have potential ... but it didn't work for me. The way the author inserted himself into the book was more than annoying too.

Pacing was real slow and it seemed really brutal in pieces

Clever. Stories of time travel invariably get convoluted with paradox, and this one has some fun with that. I'm still not completely sure it made sense, but that may be part of the point. A wacky and constantly morphing story!

I enjoyed it because of the plot twists and interesting dilemmas about time. It was fun to read in a way and I really wanted to know what would happen next, but I found the female characters were all classic male fantasy women, ie mumsy or wenchy, or both. That was quite annoying. Also there is quite gruesome violence to one woman that made me uncomfortable in the way it was dealt with and with the book being quite flippant overall.
So Yes had it's good points but made me squirm a lot.
Advice to male authors just write the book with all male characters then swap the gender of a few of them, then all your characters might be relateable. (I know some male authors write women well but haven't come across very many so far)
