Funny and full of heart, A Little Too Familiar is the best blend of humor, fantasy, and romance. Dual perspective narration allows the reader to experience emotional moments from both sides and believe the journey as the main characters find each other and form a family of misfits - humans, uncannies, and familiars - each one seeking a place to belong.

CW: PTSD, anxiety, childhood abuse, cult

A sweet, slow paced rom-com where our modern world is full of magical creatures and powers and alllll the found family vibes. It did drag on in parts, but I was in the mood for a slow read so it didn’t bother me.

At times it felt like there was a little too much world building, when naming and talking to side characters took up so much time it kind of deviated from the plot. But it did also make the world feel immersive and cosy - and the soft masculinity of the men taking care of each other and complimenting each other was so lovely. The found family dynamic is always one of my faves - although this particular network of people is so large that I sometimes got names confused.

Overall I loved the ending and am looking forward to more stories in this world. I’m so glad we’re getting more cosy paranormal romances!

I grabbed this at the library without realising the LI was a werewolf. My bad, it's in the blurb (I read the first page instead of the blurb, so maybe it's actually the fault of all the terrible blurb writers). I hate werewolf tropes (tbf the only other werewolf book I've read is *Wolfsong* by TJ Klune, which I hated). I dislike the possessiveness, the co-dependance, the childhood abuse, the way the bond is so much more restrictive than a marriage--women fought so hard for no-fault divorce and now an inescapable, possessive, co-dependent marriage to a person with a different values system is a romantic trope? Ugh. It's all just icky. So. Signs did not point to good.

But. I liked this. The icky stuff was there, but mostly handled lightly. The lightness, humour and pop culture references make this very readable. The world building is engaging. Also there is a large cast of fabulous supporting characters. The MC and LI and likable, are kind to each other, and there are no big misunderstandings. I didn't like the werewolf tropes, but I liked everything else. And the pigeons steal the show.
