Drags on, but a nice example of unreliable narrator and slow descent into madness. Epistolary books are hit or miss for me.

DNF
I dnf the first time because it was boring and thought it was the wrong time for me to read it.
So the second time around I actually got a bit further than when I stopped.
I love the whole letter narrative, but I really don't care when the character keeps blabbing on about something and nothing at the same time.

Just didn't like it. The writing is all over the place and following the plot was challenging.

Apparently I forgot to review this a few months ago when I finished it, so the high points I remember are:
- Started out a bit slow, but by the third chapter or so I was totally into it.
- The untrustworthy narrators make the story more engaging, as you're trying to read between the lines to find out the truth.
- Unfortunately, the truth was exceptionally obvious.
- But it was still a fun read.

Easily the best book I've read this year. Assuming you're in the mood for it (I had to pick this one up twice before I was), this is a brilliant depiction of one man's descent into fairly frank mental illness.

Too long. And much more tragic than funny. Also, dated, not in a historically accurate way, just in a 90s way. Still, kept me reading to figure out the whole story and Simon Prebble made an otherwise unlikeable character at least sympathetic.

I had high hopes for this book, but the writing became convoluted at times and the story hard to follow.
