I haven't read a "kids" book about reproduction/sex since I was a kid myself, which was 20 years ago now. Even though this one was originally published in the 90s, the language and wording has remained pretty evergreen. My only sticking point was the discussion of homosexual people which feels wooden and out of date.

This was on a list of books that would be appropriate for a 5 year old, but it does totally (and in great detail) explain the process of human reproduction. If you aren't ready to get into that entire conversation, the pages are formatted as stand alone explanations, so you can turn just to the ones you want to discuss and leave the rest for later.

There are a lot of detailed illustrations to accompany the text and together they are a slow and gentle explanation that is not embarrassing to discuss.

This is a great book to have on hand when it's time to talk to your elementary school aged children about sex and sexuality. The illustrations support the easy-to-digest chunks of text without being so graphic that they put-off more sensitive children. Overall, a great resource. I have loved this book for years. Our family owns three or four of Robie Harris' books that deal with sexuality and changing bodies.

For ages 7 and up, another great book by Robie H. Harris. Matter-of-fact tone, specific information, all types of families represented, and all of the related basics are covered too.

For those looking for realistic illustrations or photographs, this might not be for you. But if you need an ice-breaker or introduction to the topics of reproduction and sex, this is a light-hearted, informative choice.

My 10-year-old boy browsed through this after me and found it to be pretty boring--I think he's just too old.

I checked this book out on recommendation from the local Librarian. My daughter was in about 1st grade and was starting to ask a LOT of questions. This book was amazing. It really helped guide our conversation in a very matter-of-fact and up front way. My daughter liked the illustrations and I liked the assistance in teaching here about her body, love, and reproduction. So wonderful, I suggest this to other parents
