While this book held my curiosity, I never became attached to Frey during his dramatized memoir. No connection to the protagonist, no love from me. I thought I went into it with an open mind knowing it wasn't all non fiction, but alas I think it made every bit feel unrealistic.

mid. very mid.
i am not a fan of his writing style... between the random capitalization of nouns (that was not consistent) and the non-use of quotation marks. it just knocked a few stars off.
also, i learned shortly after finishing that parts of this book weren't even true... which... why did i even read the book at that point..?

The story was alright but I didn't enjoy how James repeats himself constantly repeats himself constantly.

Yeah, Oprah called him out on being a liar, but this book is still very well written and gets into the nitty gritty of what extreme addiction can do to a man in such a short time.
