Delightfully Australian in a modern, big city kind of way.
It is a great jump into the series as it sets up the characters, in environment and general plot for all the books quite well.
Greenwood has created loveable, flawed characters, who can be related to by many on different levels.
Pacing is at a steady medium, which does not leave the reader bored, but still allows a delightful buildup of light tension.
There is a decent amount of the plot which revolves around drugs. Both drug addicts and drug related deaths are set up with the first chapter. However, this is done in a tasteful manner which gets the point across without being too graphic.
