“o government how absurd
to believe desire requires
governance. keep giving lust
an ugly name, i’ll keep making it

"You either love the world or you live in it"
Some really good lines in here. I struggled to understand the meaning behind a few poems, though.

I want to re-read this immediately. So very good! Speechless.

"I name all the wet little rooms in my head after/ dead poets. i name the burst water pipes in the walls./ i name the electricity. this is just to say, i have eaten/ all the pills i've been prescribed & am nothing/ now, forgive me." Sam Sax's candid and imaginative exploration of the psyche's traps and challenges is both witty and poignant.

2017 is exploding with some of the best poetry collections I have read in years. Sax's collection makes me want to write me, makes me angry I have been too quiet in my own scribblings. This is an inspiring and haunting collection of poems.
Easily one of the three best collections this year (following Morgan Parker and Danez Smith).
