Eh maybe 3.5 instead. This was a chill book that was supposed to get me ready to read The Shining. It definitely did it's duty. Everyone in the reviews kept talking about how good the ending was, which sold me on the book. When I finally got there, I was impressed. It took me a little while to fully get what the author did but once I realized what happened, it all clicked into place. Other than the interesting ending, it was a normal/typical YAish book. I will probably end up ready the other book in the series in between some other King novels.

Very disappointing. This is basically a rehashing of Beautiful Disaster from the brother's point of view. How many ways can McGuire play off her original book?

“Anything to do with the Maddoxes is never boring.”

This is the first installment in the Maddox Brothers series which is a continuation of Beautiful Disaster. No longer with Travis in the spotlight this book features Trenton Maddox. Though he is not as crazy and wild as his younger brother, there are something's that run in the blood. While fierce and intimidating to all around him, he shows his kindness and love towards Camille Camlin, his childhood love.

For some reason I decided to plunge back into the crazy life of the Maddox brothers. They are impulsive, hot tempered and wild. They fight until no one is left standing and love until they have no more to give. Who wouldn't find a story like that fun? Me. I wouldn't.

Don't get me wrong the store was okay. It had the usual Maddox madness. Random bursts of violence, binge drinking, and dramatic declarations of love. It also had a lot of things in the way of their crazy love because what would a book be without obstacles right? Especially obstacles that could be easily overcome. Like why was the secret such a big secret? Why was it that serious and why would Trent hate her if he found out? It's not like Cami was with Trent when it happened s its not like she owed him anything? This could have been resolved early in the story! But, oh well.

Now a thing that has been drivning me crazy is the name. DOes everyone in this world name all of their kids the same? Why are all brtheres the same? The Maddox brothers are Thomas, Taylor, Tyler, Trenton and Travis. The Camlin brotheres are Chase, Colin, Clark and Coby. Why? Does everyone's parents think this is cool? Then there are the love interests. For Travis its Abby Abernathy. For Trent its, Camille Camlin. For Thomas it will be Liis Lindy. Then that one kid is Olive Oliver. It's not a real problem I know. I'm probably just being weird but it kind of bothers me.

This was not really a review but it's all I've got.

Trenton Maddox is a bad boy with the reputation he most definitely deserves. Girls want to tame him and but when he turns him attention on bartender Cami, she has no intention of become just another notch on his bed post. There’s a spark between them but Trenton isn’t what a girl like Cami is looking for. He lives with his father, works at a tattoo parlour with no apparent career ambition and he has had more women than she’s had hot dinners. Not to mention Cami has a boyfriend.

The fact that Cami’s boyfriend is currently living on the other side of the country combined with an other side to Trenton she never imagined could exist leads to some interesting circumstances. Cami and Trenton become friends but with the tension between them, friendship seems to be a cover for something Cami isn’t ready to name.

From the first time Cami and Trenton were in a room together, I enjoyed their dynamic. He’s the guy all the girls want and he knows it. So it was incredibly amusing to see Cami trying shut him down but at the same time Trenton being seemingly oblivious to her frostiness. They are each others perfect match and yet it seems as if there is no way they will ever be able to be together. Cami’s boyfriend is a constant presence in their relationship (even from California) and from the start it seems inevitable that Cami would be better off with Trenton than the mysterious TJ. Trenton’s brother Travis makes a few appearances with this novel’s timeline running parallel to the novels in the Beautiful series. It was nice to see how the stories wove together. Cami’s brothers also contribute to the relationship drama and I thought they were realistic in the way in which the siblings all interacted with each other. Reagan, Cami’s BFF, is a great conscience of sorts but she also brings her own drama and personality to the story.

What I loved most about this novel is how Cami and Trenton’s relationship progressed. There may have been instant attraction but this is not a story of instalove. Cami got to know Trent better as they became friends and he also got to see there was more to her than just the girl he knew from elementary school. Cami was always aware of Trenton’s intentions but she was just as upfront about hers – she had a boyfriend she adored and treated her well. Her family dramas, Trenton’s girlfriend history and a bunch of well-meaning co-workers made Beautiful Oblivion a wonderfully well-rounded story.

Beautiful Oblivion had everything I love in a novel – romance, amusing banter and a cast of wonderful secondary characters. I loved getting to witness Cami and Trenton as they navigated their relationship from strangers to friends to possibly something more. There’s a few mysteries along the way (which I wasn’t at all surprised by) but added an extra element of drama to the novel. Great romance, interesting journey – I adored this book and will definitely be reading the next book in the Maddox Brothers series to see what Jamie McGuire comes up with next.

Wow! I thought Travis and Abby were an amazing read, that had me sucked in for days on end, but Trent and Cami put a whole new level of awestruck in my head and heart! I was glued to the pages and didn't want to put it down. Trent has a persona any girl with a beating heart would love. Cami is such a strong and independent woman, considering her history, and goes through a lot of difficulties within these pages. When I read the last line of the book, all I'll say is Trent said it right "It all makes sense now". I didn't see that coming, but it pulls the whole puzzle together. A great writer always can pull the "wow factor" and Jamie definitely did that for me!

Well, that was a really silly secret. I kept waiting impatiently to find out what this big secret was and thought it would have to be quite a doozy. And surprisingly, I didn't see it coming. I thought it was going to be much worse than it was and when it was revealed in the last line of the book I was surprised and then thought to myself "SO??" I like Trent Maddox better than Travis but I have a feeling I will like Thomas the best.
