There was a very old copy at my grandma's house (in German) which terrified us as children.

🇬🇧

As child I always wondered why it was called Struwwelpeter and not Strubbelpeter, now I know that it's a dialect 🙆‍♂️

Anyway, the book was amazing as a child, even though it was a bit disturbing.

I love how I hate it! These stories are bizarrely horrible, with a wild dark humor. Kids are killed left and right for minor offenses in this refreshingly un-sanitized collection. I wish there were a closing poem to bookend with the intro and add a bit more cohesion.

Beim ersten Mal zusammen lesen, Fragen beantworten usw.

This is a cult classic in Germany, unfortunately. It was created to scare kids shitless into submission. Principles of education are very harmful. Originally published in 1845, my rating is in light of “how things were back then”, but it should be forbidden nowadays, in my opinion.
