Nice prologue to the Summoner-series. It definitely makes a new reader curious about the first book The Novice and is a good 'follow-up' for anyone who has already read The Novice and/or The Inquisition already.

Es war eine interessante Kurzgeschichte, auf deren Ideen durchaus eine gute Trilogie aufgebaut werden kann. Da mir die Leseprobe ganz gut gefallen hat, werde ich mir Band 1 sicherlich kaufen.

Good to see a young Arcturus and get his back story! Would love to see more and his journey into becoming a battlemage. Great prequel!

The story is honestly nearly the same as the first book in the series. It makes it a little tough to read at times.

A great prequel to the Summoner trilogy.

I thought it was about James Baker, the summoner from whom Fletcher inherits the demon and the book. But no, it's about Arcturus !

And I really liked him and I better understand his theories about Fletcher's background. Their stories are so similar in a way.

I had a great time reading this short story and it's useful if you want to know more about the tension within the summoner families, who are the good and bad guys, why commoners are disregarded, why Arcturus helped Fletcher and so on...

Hate and nastiness are inherited from one generation to another. I would like to know more about Prince Harold who seems to be an interesting character.

I loved getting the back story for Arcturus. he is one of my favourite characters in The Novice even though he doesn't feature heavily in the story. i am looking forward to book 2 and continuing on the journey. it is a great world that Taran has created.

An interesting idea of demonology and summoning. Seems a little contrived at points, the main theme being rehashed from older books. I enjoyed the storytelling and the sense of learning. Yet the author seems to be stuck on the idea of class and how a commoner got powers rather than learning about the demon mentally attached to your soul or something like that.

So I decided to read this before reading the first book in The Summoner series The Novice, and I loved it!
Arcturus is sassy, amazing and his relationship with his demon Sacharissa is heart warming and at one point had me smiling so much I hurt my jaw.
The story was great and wet my appetite for The Novice, I feel that reading the prequel first gave me a lot of information that will be great to know before starting the series (even though they will most likely explain it in the books). The explanations for mana and even some demon species has gotten me really excited to start this series!

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves fantasy!
now off I go to read The Novice, I really hope Arcturus appears in the main story! :)
