"No Country for Old Men" by Cormac McCarthy is a novel set in the American Southwest. The story follows the intertwined lives of three men: Llewelyn Moss, a Vietnam veteran who stumbles upon a drug deal gone wrong and takes off with a suitcase of money; Anton Chigurh, a ruthless hitman hired to retrieve the stolen money; and Sheriff Ed Tom Bell, an ageing lawman who is trying to track down Chigurh and bring him to justice.

As the novel progresses, the tension builds as the paths of these three men converge, leading to a series of violent confrontations. The novel explores themes of fate, morality, and the changing nature of the American West. The characters in the book are complex and multi-layered, and the story is told with McCarthy's spare and poetic prose.

Great story but very dark. The killer is a true psychopath not feeling any way about what he’s doing. He’s very good at what he does and that’s all he feels about it. Most of the characters are very complex and all feel that they are doing the right things. Overall this is one of my favorite McCarthy books.

This novel is, as is often the case, better than the movie - not worlds better, but better. Just on the virtue that the movie was not able to capture everything the book could. I read it after seeing the movie, and it really illuminated a lot of things.

Smart, gripping, and invitingly opaque.
