So profound and beautifully written,  so much to think about. Stresses the importance of history, God, and hope in a world that so desperately tries to rip those things away. A ponderance on the human condition and the meaning of the times.

Cormac McCarthy’s unique writing style is something. Not my personal favorite, but somehow even without the standard punctuation and dialogue I did not find myself getting lost or confused or not knowing who was talking. I think this book is interesting, but better as a screenplay.

I really wanted to enjoy this book more than I did, but I found the story quite hard to follow at times, this made it a very slow read. The fact that it had no speech marks threw me off from the get go, but after that initial surprise I started to get used to it, however the story itself was still quite hard to follow. Although, the parts that I could understand were very good and so I will be watching the film to try and get some a better hold on the story. Overall I’ve been left feeling very conflicted about this book.

Good choice if you’re looking for a short read, enticing plot, and some flawed characters that have you rooting for them anyway. Some witty banter, some shocking twists, plenty of imagery. And a badass villain. But is Anton the villain, or is it the drug trade itself? Enjoyable read if you’re a fan of McCarthy’s style and a nihilist. Hehe.
