Pretty good book. It provided a deeper insight into Lucas's life which isn't truly explored into in the show. Some topical issues raised that show a deeper insight into life in the 80's

Such an amazing book, got it as I’m a huge strange things fan and Lucas is my favourite character next to Max. I love that the books highlighted the racism he faced and showed how even though he loved his friends they never would understand his experiences and were quite ignorant to his experiences at times (like the microagressions he faced). I also love how it shows his relationship with Max as I feel like the show focused too much on building El and Mikes relationship (even though there’s not chemistry to be had there but that’s a whole other thing) and we didn’t really get to see just how much Max and Lucas loved/understood each other. This book was so great.

Lucas your the most supportive character ever :')

This book is all I wanted, a character driven story that focuses on his perspective and struggles. I wish they added some aspects that were discussed here in the show! It would have made more sense with how he was acting in season 4. He deserved so much better.

His devotion to his friends was really wholesome to read abt too. This book made me tear up several times lmao

While I value the added perspective of the events prior to season 4, I do think that's the only reason to read it. While the other stories have the benefit of having a lot of stuff to touch upon, simply by having them be late editions to the cast, the audience does have a slightly bit of a sense of who Lucas is due to having spent three seasons with him leaving with a lot less wiggle room to dig into. So while this confirms things that were only hinted at in the show (Lucas' potential alienation by being one of the only black kids in the show, how Max's family situation crumpled post S3, why Mike is such an asshole in s4, etc.) the rest is... I don't want to call it trite, but well worn ground.

Not mad I read it, but hoping it was something more.

this book is fantastic. it allows for a much needed backstory to s4 and feels both original and personal while never loosing lucas’s voice. i laughed, i cried, overall just such a good book.
