It has been a while since a book actually caught me off guard. While I was able to guess some of the ending, what I didn’t guess made this book even more of a wow. So very good.

I really liked The Royal Secret. It has a little bit of everything, mystery, thriller, suspense, intrigue , betrayal, romance and lets not forget secrets. The secrets. Everyone and I mean everyone, is hiding something! It’s also a quick read even though it’s almost 500 pages. I couldn’t put it down.

TRS is a plot driven book with well developed characters. The story is told in the third person from primarily four POV - Joanna Haslam, reporter; Zoe Harrison, actress; Marcus Harrison, Zoe’s brother; and Simon Warburton, Joanna’s best friend - with a few others strewn throughout.

I picked up TRS last year at my local used bookstore. I totally forgot what the plot was about so I went in pretty blind and am happy I did. I sussed out the main secret before it was revealed and I suspected the outcome, but until I read the entire book, I just wasn’t positive. This is a book in which the details matter. Sure there are a lot of coincidences and the need to suspend belief. However, this story is entirely plausible especially since the book takes place in 1996 and is about uncovering a secret that is 70 years old. There are a lot of twists and turns in The Royal Secret and I loved all of them.

P.S. Info from the Author’s Note: this book was originally published in 2000 in the UK as Seeing Double, but all of the PR for the book was cancelled and barely anyone read it. In 2018 SD was revised and updated and republished in the UK as The Love Letter and the US as The Royal Secret.

Wat een geweldig boek! Een heel ander boek dan de gebruikelijke boeken van haar maar echt boeiend tot het einde!
