Real kids, fast-paced fun, and a mystery that kept me guessing. I loved the vain substitute.

Cute and funny. This might be a good read aloud for grades 2-4.

I loved Smashie. I was relieved to find she was a girl, when I first saw the title I was afraid it was going to be a boy detective duo. But no. Smashie's voice is delightful, and I love Griffin's playfulness. This is a splendid gateway mystery, with all sorts of twists and turns throughout. I liked the adults, too- especially the real teacher, and the principal with the histrionics. Everyone oughta have a principal given to histrionics. And Smashie's right. Hamsters DO have weird, creepy little feet. Highly recommended. 4.5 stars
