overall very cute! a pretty easy read and i liked the two main characters a lot and all of their friends. there were a few things that made me personally cringe but i think that’s more because i’ve seen those tropes in bad fanfiction: 1. anytime an author uses the metaphor of someone having “strong emotional walls” and specifically having one of the characters SAY it to the other and 2.
Spoilerany time a strong female character who is very set on not having kids changes her mind for a man. this one is extremely personal to me hating that trope so i don’t want to say it’s objectively bad or unrealistic, i just personally dislike it in media when i come across it.

It fades to black, which they should have to tell you up front.

This was one of my most anticipated reads since last year when I first heard about it and I have to say it was pretty good, I'm glad I finally got to it. I loved everyone is this book except for Liya's dad and Mukesh obviously. I won't like though I did think Liya was annoying for about a good 90% of the book. With that being said though I did admire her strength for what she has had to deal with in her past and how that followed her around for years after. My annoyance with her was because of Jay. To me she hated him for no good reason and the way she was always so defensive got a bit irritating after a while but in hindsight I get why. Jay Shah. That man was great, zero complaints about him. I loved all of the side characters as well, they were so great. I loved Jay's family as well especially because of how they didn't really pay much attention to the rumors they heard about Liya. As someone of South Asian descent, reading a book with representation is always nice.  Overall this was a really good read.

This book caused Emotions™️. One of the most satisfying book endings I’ve read. Probably the most satisfying ending possible for someone who has survived SA. The conclusion for the parallel plot was just as satisfying as the conclusion for the romance. Lisa is such a fantastically independent woman I was afraid that a HEA for the romance would quash that, and I am happy to report it did not. Jay is one of the most responsible and considerate book boyfriends I’ve read.

Check trigger warnings! There are some super heavy themes here, personally, I think they were all handled responsibly and with care.

This isn’t a great escapism book, or it wasn’t for me, just because of how emotionally heavy parts of it can be a lot. While I wouldn’t call it great for escapism it hits the spot in a whole other delightful way. Still has that big romance HEA, just with a kick-ass bit of social justice on the side.
