The book ends on a cliffhanger, which is frustrating! So glad I don't have to wait for the next book however. I picked it up right away.
The cliffhanger at the end is frustrating. Like we have to wonder if Kal died (probably not), and if the rest of the crew won't follow quickly behind.
Learning more about the Eshvaren was cool. Also Tyler and Scarlett are part Waywalker. Interesting twists. I got spoiled about Kal's father when I was looking up Kal fanfic pics, so that was not a surprise for me.
I CANNOT STAND Aurora's voice actor. I am switching to book only for the next book just to avoid her.
I hit a reading slump with this one honestly. Took me a month to finish, which is ridiculous. I have complaints, but I still had a good time.

Kal and Aurora's codependent relationship got annoying very quickly. Actually, all the characters sexualizing each other has gotten old very fast. Like, we get it, you're all young and hot. There is more to life than this. The cliffhanger at the end is frustrating. Like we have to wonder if Kal died (probably not), and if the rest of the crew won't follow quickly behind.

This book was a little unoriginal because it relied soo much on Avatar the Last Airbender to carry it. The entire premise is the same as Avatar's but with the changes and intergalatic warfare; Aurora is Aang, Scarlet and Tyler are Katara and Sokka, Cat probably doesn't play a role ngl because she dies so early on, Saedii is Azula and Kal is Zuko, and their father (WHICH I CALLED BTW, IT WAS SO OBVIOUS FROM THE VERY BEGINNING) is the firelord and the Starslayer in this book. Him being a Trigger was not something I expected though. Oops. Spoilers hehe. Spoilers for probably the rest of this review. This book didn't hit me as much as the next book would so I gave it a 3 stars because there was nothing memorable that happened except for character stuff and Aurora learning her powers and a lot of sexual tension between Saedii and Tyler... uhhh Idk how to feel about that either. Weird. The only thing I liked really was the reference to Harry Potter book 7 with the bank break in, and the part where Caersen (Starslayer, starlord, whatever, man) talked about the Maker being multiple MAKERS, which theY NEVER ADDRESS IN THE REST OF THE SERIES WTF NO SHOCK REVEAL NOTHING?
A little disappointed, but we'll talk about the next book in the next review.

I am so mad at this book right now! That is not an ending. That’s a “hey, y’all, I know we’re in the middle of everything, and literally everyone is about to die—in the process of dying? already dead?—but we’re gonna call it over now, kay?” kind of stop. I already called bs on the squad’s reaction to the Big Secret, but I can typically hurtle over forced plot devices—at least once—but this? No. Do yourself a favor: if you’re going to read this one, wait until the third book is published.

The plant zombies were less nightmare inducing in this one, which was nice. I like the characters and want to see what happens to them.To be honest, this feels less like a series and more like a single long book sold in three separate pieces.

Amie and Jay are masters of their craft!
This book is so good! I either need a sixth star or to take away a star from every book I've ever rated to do justice to how good this book is!
The pace is just right, the story is enticing, the characters and their backstories are being explored and revealed in a believable way, and the universe K&K created is one I wish wouldn't end with the next book.
