This is a great story set during the Civil War or mostly after the war and the lingering hard feelings the war left on the people of the North and South.
Mercy, an amnesiac, was stuck between wanting to know her past and then trying to create a future. However, a chance meeting during the war reappeared in her life and, well, you'll have to read to see.
The story takes us through the feelings of the people and we are set in St. Louis with sights on the war's ending. Lincoln was murdered at the theatre, many people were dead, brothers pitted against brothers, and Johnson's not really withholding up the new changes. Things are a mess and we get to read all about it, but in a very subtle way. All of that is perfectly placed in the story as part of the scenery while things are going on with the main characters.
There are many characters in the story and they were all well done. I love Mercy and her warring with her past and present and possible future. She's good at heart but not sure where she belongs. Rand has a lot to deal with.
So the only downfall is I had no idea this was going to be part of a series when I requested it on Netgalley. Otherwise, I would have waited, and for good cause, because it ended in a very tense place. This doesn't take away from the book at all, just something I wish I would have known.

We first see Mercy as a soldier in the Confederate army fighting for the South. The readers are not privy to this information. After an accident and sparing the life of an Union soldier, she loses her memory, and is taken into the the care of nuns, while simultaneously curving a life for herself.
Firstly, this book is categorized as religious, but I don't find it overly so. There are Christian undertones, but it's to be expected in post-civil war America.
I found this book to be an engaging and quick read. The plot was fast paced but not confusing or randomly so. We have the usual romance happening with gentleman callers and propriety and what is accepted and what is not.
I had a few issues with the ending. It was abrupt and I don't think it fit the stride of the story properly. Here we are moving along and then...wait what? I think I missed that part. I think I missed several parts.
Overall, Traces of Mercy is something to consider if you're looking for a quick and easy read.

I'm not 100% sure of how I feel about this book.
I don't normally read civil war romances and it isn't really my favorite time period, so I probably won't read another for a long time. It wasn't a bad book, it just seemed like it dragged on and on. The last 25% of the book raced by, but the other three quarters had me constantly checking to see how much more I had before it was over.
Also, I believe another reason I didn't particularly enjoy this read was that she didn't end up with who I wanted her to end up with. I will admit that is sometimes a problem of mine, I'm aware of it, but I can't seem to change things. I wanted her to end up with Eli. Period.
I'm giving it three stars because it really wasn't a bad read. The authors did a nice job describing the setting and keeping us informed of what was happening, history wise, it just wasn't my cup of tea.

A freebie I got for my Kindle, that I wasn't sure if it looked like something I was going to be interested in. Then, I saw a recommendation from someone that they really enjoyed it, so I decided to go ahead and read it. One of the authors is Michael Landon Jr and I was always a big "little Joe" fan, so I plunged right in. And the writing and plot grabbed me at the beginning. Enjoyable read, so much so that I wanted to read the second and final book in the series, so I grabbed it while I could get it on sale for 99 cents. Good book!

I am so excited that I have found another great series! Loved the strong female protagonist and the men who tried to save her. I flew through this book last night, it's so fast-paced. Can't wait to read the next one.

This book was a roller coaster of emotion and twists, something I liked a lot.

A confederate is unconscious when they bring "him" into the doctors office. Upon examination they find out that the "he" is really a "she" dressed as a confederate soldier. When she finally wakes she has no memory of who she is nor anything about her past. She is taken to an orphans home to heal and hopefully remember her past. Many things happen to her but her memory is not one of them.
