Do you love characters that overcome intense hardship? Ugh I absolutely loved Kaneki's break down. Like this poor summer child is so used to being stomped on that his brain finally demands that he do things for himself. So Good. I want the best for this boy.

This volume is definitely a chef's kiss. I love when we have a sweet baby character get tainted and become what they need to be to survive.(If this is the start of Kaneki's villian arc I am here for it.)

Ken Kaneki, the man that you are.

Listen, I'm not saying I love it when a fictional wimpy guy is broken down until he is just a shell of himself and he comes out more damaged than before, sporting a new hair color and being absolutely terrifying. I am also not saying that any of this happens here. 👀 I am just saying.

Back at Anteiku, the crew makes a plan to retrieve Kaneki from the Aogiri Tree. At the same time, the CCG is closing in on the Aogiri Tree hideout. Things get tense and chaotic, and the volume ends with the promise of a clash to come. This volume is fucking brutal, showcasing gore and torture, as well as perseverance and a hint of insanity. Needless to say, I am hooked.

May 9 - May 9 2023: The scary stuff was so bad that it kind of shocked me out of the story.
There were some really great large panels in this!
This one was scary and tragic and bloody, it was great. Still needs more Yomo though.
Also I'm struggling to care about the investigators, I feel like it wants me to care about them.

Dies ist der Teil, der Ken wirklich zu dem macht, der er ist... wo seine Haare weis werden und er sich seiner Kraft bewusst wird.
