Pretty and atmospheric and entirely ephemeral.

This collection of flash fiction made my heart soar – it's absolutely an exercise of masterful storytelling. Lee opens little portals into the most gorgeous of worlds, full of romance and adventures. I tried recommending this to a friend and devolved quickly into just screaming "it's so beautiful, PLEASE."
A strong recommendation for folks who've been enjoying THE SINGING HILLS CYCLE by Nghi Vo or who have enjoyed reading fables but wish they were queerer, and perhaps a little less human-centric.

Beautiful and moving, what is being said echoing past the confines of that story.

Excellent collection of flash fiction. Great format, even better execution. For me this is somewhere in between Sturm & Drang poetry and Aesops fables, only thoroughly modernized. I will surely come back to this author very soon!

A lovely selection of very short stories, the longest is about five pages. Whimsical and beautiful writing, I really loved the way these stories made me feel.

I didn't realize before starting this that the stories are all flash fiction, no more than a few pages in length. And most of them are pretty good flash fiction, here and there I thought one was quite lovely, I just don't really care for a whole book of only very short stories. I liked the short vignettes in Hexarchate Stories a lot, but I think key to my enjoyment is that they were sprinkled in among other, more substantive stories, and also since they were mostly just illustrating small character moments for Cheris and Jedao, they didn't need to carry as much weight as each little standalone here.

2.5 the short form felt rather unsatisfactory for some of the stories and overall few were memorable for me

This book is one of the most beautiful things I’ve read in a while. Each story was so endearing and wove such a deep world for something that was usually only 3-4 pages. The tone was really refreshing and left me feeling hopeful. Definitely recommend especially if you need a quick snippet of uplifting fantasy.
