A fun and interesting read. Julie Adams grew up in mostly rural areas in Arkansas in the 1930s, including Blytheville. Eventually she went to live with an uncle and aunt in Little Rock and attended high school there. She wanted to act, so learned some secretarial skills to support herself until she made it and her aunt helped her buy a ticket to Hollywood. Another relative ran a high end bathing suit store in Long Beach and offered to help her out. She got a job working in the film library, met a talent agent who referred her for speech and acting lessons. Her first bit was a photo shoot for a magazine cover prop in a movie. Than she began appearing in westerns. Finally she got the role for the female scientist in Creature from the Black Lagoon. Which has made her famous in monster movie circles. She starred in many other films with big name stars, but is celebrated by Creature fans. She also worked in television and plays. She got her start under the studio system where she made movies for a specific studio.
She was encouraged to write the book by her son after he had gone to a monster event with her. Ben Chapman who played the Creature often went to these events and called her to attend. She finally did and thoroughly enjoyed herself and began attending when she could. The inside Front cover of my book was posters from some of the movies she had been in and the inside back cover is movie posters of Creature From the Black Lagoon. Fun to look at these posters.
