This book confirms that Dumbledore is the worst and so many problems could have been solved if he just let Harry in on the secrets. I mean I don’t think any child should have that much on their shoulders but if you have to for canon sake then tell the whole fucking picture. Same with Snape! Before the big fight was so heartbreaking. And fumble fire had the audacity to beg for forgiveness, pathetic.

This books presents a very unsatisfying end to a series that to this point vacillated wildly in both tone and quality throughout. None of the systemic issues presented in the frequently nightmarish society the books take place in were ever resolved in a narrative even when they were deliberately highlighted by the author as such. The stories waver between promoting acceptance and condemning individuals for being fat/ugly/alcoholic/ambitious/racist (and yes the author treats all of these things as equivalent).

I would not recommend this series. Given the author has become a well-known supporter of hate groups in the past several years, I would heavily advise potential readers to look elsewhere.

I finally finished the Harry Potter books! This was a great finale to the series, but it made me cry many times to the point that by the end of Deathly Hollows I couldn't cry anymore, even if I wanted to. I loved these books so much. Now I only need to read The Cursed Child, but I'm officially done with the original series!

"Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love."

Aaaaah. What a perfect way to end this series. With this book, my 24 in 24 challenge is also complete. I honestly can't believe it. This book did feel a tad bit too long, but that's to be expected for a finale. The secrets, the twists, the turns... there's nothing like this series. This re-read was absolutely brilliant. I can't wait to re-read more series. I'm so sad to see this go... but at least I can binge the movies!

Final Ranking:
  1. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
  2. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
  3. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
  4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
  5. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
  6. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
  7. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
