Sea Monsters definitely made this better, but no amount of leviathans can make me interested in Austen.

Quite disappointing because I really enjoyed "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies." I just couldn't get into it.

Hahahahahahaha! Really, this was great. I liked it better than Pride & Prejudice & Zombies...the sea monsters were woven in better, I think. A great way to get kids interested in classics, I think, or a new spin for those of us who already like them.

Could...not...finish...or...really...even...get...into...it. HORRID!

I've never read Sense and Sensibility but this was amusingly entertaining. Pairing Austin's writing and world period with the casual "that guy just got bit in half by a fish" was fun to read.

So...looking around at other reviews on this book I seem to be one of the few who feel the same way I do about this book, or maybe one of the few who hold this opinion but actually read the book. Before I read this book all I could think about was how this man is destroying a classic, totally defacing it. Now, after having given the author a fair chance, I feel he is totally defacing a classic but...in a creative way. This is the first time I have ever seen a book like this and well, by the pop up of these books over the last year, it won't be the last. I finished this book and Winters goes into some very creative meanderings with the original characters and language as Jane Austen favored but I still just felt wrong reading it.

Not as good as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I had a really hard time getting through this one.

Honestly I only finished reading this book because I wanted to get to my favorite scene at the end. I enjoyed the beginning very much and had high hopes, but some of the creative choices the author made didn't add to the story.
It's nothing like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, where it felt like I was reading a zombie book written by Jane Austen. The people in this world didn't seem to be adequately afraid of the giant sea creatures that hate and want to destroy humanity. And while everyone was perfectly capable of defending themselves, they still hired guards to protect them. But when the monsters attacked, the guards failed to protect anyone.
Two of the subplots were not necessary and the Sub-Marine Station Beta could not have existed with the technology of 200+ years ago. London would've been fine for this book. The Thames River could've supplied an army of sea monsters.
I did enjoy Lady Middleton's and Mrs. Jenning's background and while Sir John is nothing like himself from the original book, he fits this world well and at one point swims naked to fight a walrus.
About half of the book was worded strangely for an Austen style book and the author wrote strange fight scenes. While the book was entertaining, I wouldn't recommend it to an avid classics lover. It might be good for someone who wants to start reading classics, but enjoys fantasy and science fiction stories.
