Emily’s voice and presence as a writer are both so strong— and her story is a powerful and heartbreaking one. Her reclaiming of herself over the course of her essays is inspiring, yet these essays don’t shy away from the pain and anger that led to her realizations and reclaiming. While reading and listening, there were many lines that had me nodding in agreement or thinking, “I need to write that down.” This novel highlights the value (or lack thereof) that society attributes to women— and specifically how much of that value is based upon the USE of women, as objects rather than full beings.

I highly recommend reading this.

"My Body" is a fascinating read that would be right at home in a women's and gender studies course. Ratajkowski explores her relationship to her body and her body's relationship to the world. As a model, actress, and sex symbol, people probably scoff at her being able to say anything worthwhile about this subject, but I think she has more right than others. She knows her body is great (sometimes. Thank you, entertainment industry, for being so toxic you can make people that look like this think they're fat), and she used it to make money. That doesn't mean that people should have free access to it. She explains her history of sexual assault and the number of people who have used her image without permission. She closes the book with an essay about how her body made her son, and it's beautiful.

Her reflections on her body, how she uses it, and how that's changed over time were interesting to me. I think we all have complicated relationships with our bodies, and this book captures that so well. Even though my experiences are wildly different than hers, I still found it all so easy to connect to. This is not a fluffy memoir, and I recommend it.

It is good, but it leaves many questions unanswered. At times un-relatable, and not nuanced and tone-deaf. At other times, candid and bright and raw. The narrator has not figured it all out, but she’s certainly thinking. Maybe more of a book cataloging the life of a model through her a feminist lens than a work of feminist literature in itself.
