cheering for you
to live & thrive."

Broke my heart than stitched it back up. Beautiful and full of metaphors

I loved this just as much if not more than Me (Moth). I struggle with my mental health and felt this book so deeply, especially towards the end where I kept crying as I read. I needed this even with the author's note at the front stating that it could be triggering to the reader. Please read content/trigger warnings if you are someone who is/or has struggled with mental health. This can be a difficult and emotional read.
The cover is stunning, the writing is beautiful, and I will definitely look out for whatever the author publishes next.

“There is someone out there rooting for you. You are not alone, in any Forest. You there, … we are rooting, cheering for you to live & thrive.”

With this novel in verse, McBride has created a beautiful modern fairytale depicting the struggles of a life lived with grief and depression, and how powerful stories and friendship are in weathering/overcoming those struggles.

Thank you to Netgalley, Amber McBride, and everyone apart of the FierceReads team for this e-arc to read and review.

Written in verse, WE ARE ALL SO GOOD AT SMILING, follows Whimsy, a teenager with clinical depression caused by traumas from her past that she seems to remember differently from everyone around her. While she's at a treatment center, she meets Faerry, a boy with wings, garden tattoos, and someone she recognizes to have the same magic as her. When she leaves the center, he's not far behind.... as her new neighbor and sharing the same fears of the Forest. As they spend more time together, Whimsy and Faerry discover their lives are more interconnected than they originally thought and reopen old wounds to heal. Told with fairy tale references and magical elements, this story beautifully and emotionally details the affects mental health, trauma, and death has on teens and how they cope.

Trigger and Content Warnings for depression, mention and description of self harm, bullying, death, grief, suicidal thoughts and notes, racism, panic attacks,
