Brilliant! Totally compelling and immersive, as usual.

Loved that Sejun was “wonderfully plump”, and didn’t like physical exertion - except for dancing and sex! Unusual and refreshing for a main character to not conform to modern beauty standards. Also appreciated the other bucking of norms, such as Sejun being younger, shorter, less physically fit, not interested in outdoor activities, despite being the alpha in the relationship. I can’t imagine Sejun being written so well by anyone other than this author.

The story was so beautifully put together, just like the others in this series.

In an arranged marriage in which one party enters hopeful and the other with the expectation of failure, inevitably the former is going to be seen as the wronged party. And this is true, but it's also fair to say that Taral's
reluctance and emotional turmoil
is reasonable given the events of his past. It was so beautiful watching these two well-drawn men build a relationship in spite of the challenges they face. I also enjoyed the continuation of the political issues from the prior book in the series, and am excited to read future installments. The books stand alone pretty well, but the connections drawn make reading them in order more satisfying. A final note: Kerr's prose is spare and gorgeous, and the sex scenes in her books are some of the loveliest I've read.

This book is just achingly sweet and tender, very low-drama, cozy, and low-stakes. I wish the plot had been a bit more involved, but I enjoyed this reading so thoroughly I can hardly complain.

I continue to be shocked by Corey's ability to write tender, longing, hyper-romantic books that juxtapose so dramatically with hot filthy smutty sex scenes. This feels like a realistic story of love growing during a marriage of convenience, and the realism of that slowly growing love was so subtle that I cherished it all the more.

I don't have the depth of experience with the fantasy genre to appropriately comment on the world-building of this series, but I know that it is fantastic. Each book in this series centers around a different kingdom, and every kingdom is just as richly developed as the next. There was little overlap between books one and two, so this was the first time I saw knowledge from past books become relevant and I revealed that realization every time I noticed something new. The depth of culture and history of each of these vastly different, but interconnected nations has just bowled me over every time I pick up a new book.
