Finished this in a day, really had to wash that last book from my system.

I was afraid that this was going to be really dark since it was dealing with a lot of vices; chain smoking, cutting and alcoholism but in reality, the one word I would choose to describe it with would be 'Cute'. They was just something so adorable about the main character and the humor that the author was about to imbue within the story that it was a really fun read.

I just wished that there was a little bit more funny terrible IHOP parts in it. I enjoy hearing about peoples terrible part time jobs.

I just can't stand the cadence of the writing, feels very self-centered teenager for it being about a 20-something.

messy embarrassing emotions and realistic sex! i especially admire liebegott's ability to write a character whose thoughts and actions don't often align, and who is so trapped in fear and insecurity (this is rendered humorously and self-consciously, but also really genuinely/compellingly) - so frustrating to read - come on, goaty, get yrself out of IHOP and do something real!! and then she does. i haven't been so proud of a protagonist's triumphs in a long while.

It reminded me of Go Ask Alice, I only finished it because it was short...

I enjoyed this book while I was reading it but to be honest after finishing it I don't know what I'm taking away from it. It probably didn't help that two of my favourite authors bigged it up on the cover, my expectations were probably very high. Like I say, it was fine, but I don't think it was anything special.

'The IHOP Papers' was a lot more intense than I had expected it to be. The main character, Francesca, deals with a lot in her personal life, and the way it is written can really affect you, if you get attached to characters. The way Liebegott writes her characters really draws the reader in to the story- they all have really distinct personalities.
Even though The IHOP Papers deals with some pretty heavy things,Francesca is a hilarious character. Some people have complained that she's just a flat, tortured lesbian, but I think her character is written deeper than that- she is suicidal, and obsessed with Irene but there's still more to her that shines through.
