The end of this hurt me a lot so what’s new 🥲 Wow. I loved this just as much as Malice. I loved that in this one we finally start to see things come together. There are reunions that I’ve been waiting for and realizations that were so cool to see! I love so many of these characters and it was so fun to get to meet many new ones in this book. I’m constantly terrified for all of them though. The stress while reading these books is unmatched.

One thing I’d love more of in this series is heartfelt moments between characters. John Gwynne is so good at creating characters that I adore, I just wish in the midst of all the war scenes, we’d get more soft scenes to balance all of that out. I’m seriously emotionally invested in these characters, but I could be even more invested if we had more scenes exploring the relationships between them all.

Can’t wait to read the third book!!

This series is very frustrating. Good guys in this series can't take a break. Nothing is going their away. The bad guys are not just two steps ahead. It feels like it is 10. Yes, it is different and I appreciate that. But sometimes I just want to bury my head in a pillow. Second book finished and good side did basically nothing. They just reacted to others.

Disappointing followup to Book 1. 3/5, maybe less.

Definitely better than the first but not a 5. The stories put together in the first book all culminate so well towards the second half of this book. You’d think with how much is tied up there couldn’t be two more books but John Gywne does a great job and flowing through conflict with out making it feel forced

This book hurt me. But I cannot stop reading this series. These characters are so easy to love. I was attached to so many of them, and in a series with constant war, that is horrible. I'm thrilled to know where this plot goes now. Unlike the first book, this one isn't as predictable. And I have no idea what will happen in the next two. Valor made me laugh, cry, and rage in anger. John is a seriously gifted writer.
