This was lying around for a while, but at some point I was reading five books at the same time of which I didn’t really love three - time to get this over with. The good news is that once I powered through, I came to some more interesting stories, but not enough to safe this for me.
I generally have a love-hate relationship with short story collections: I am so happy to find good ones, but unfortunately there is a greater chance they leave me entirely unimpressed. Sadly, this collection was more a case of the latter. I didn’t DNF tho, because with every new author came a new opportunity for enjoyment that I refused to give up on.
This has peaked my interest to read more of Chibundu Onuzo and Claire Kohda (oh scratch the latter, two stories on dead animals is a pattern I’d rather not get involved with). Furthermore, it has confirmed Margaret Atwood just doesn’t do much for me; it made Ali Smith’s Autumn drop further down my TBR; and pushed Caroline O’Donoghue’s The Rachel Incident higher up.
However, I just finished this and already have a hard time recalling any of these stories, so overall this was a no.
