i devoured this even though i had mixed feelings about it in the beginning. the strangers to lovers to enemies to lovers again trope was everything. boyd pissed me off a little bit at times, but i’ll definitely be reading his and fiona’s book soon (he redeemed himself at the end).

one of the last quotes of the book, for me, perfectly describes their relationship and their dynamic,
"maybe his obsession shouldn't please me as much as it does, but part of why we work, so well is that we're both fucked in the head; equally tangled up in one another. "
they are truly a couple that has suffered through so much trauma throughout the whole book and for me, I fear, it did not amount to a good reading experience. Not to say that I don't enjoy fucked up characters in a book together, I truly do, but there is basically no resolution to their conflicts or trauma throughout the whole book.
their backstories were unnecessarily traumatic and their current lives not flushed out enough. all of that without mentioning how it was so heavily marketed as a rockstar romance for him to get on stage or barely talk about music and his art like once throughout the whole thing just to say that he was retiring and living with the love of his life. their obsession with each other and the great jealousy/smut scenes pushed me through the book and it will most likely carry me through the rest of the series. overall, I believe it was a disappointment considering how much I liked the first book, hopefully the third will pick it back up.

This book is problematic to put lightly. Tries turning r@pe into a romance by playing it off after the fact as kink when that's not at all how that kink works in reality. The mythological connection in this book is very obscure and forced. Even serious scenes the author tries forcing sexual tension and it just does not work. The only redeeming factors are that there are some good scenes and some decent dialogue on healing (but most of that is clouded with trauma bonding and toxic relationships).
