I received The Council in return for an honest review from the author. Sasha & Stefan are back this time they are headed to the council to get approval that will make it all official. For the next two weeks they will each be tested on their own. While Stefan faces off using his fighting skills it will be up to Sasha to use her skills with magic. Together they will have to fight each challenge hoping to win the approval of the council and Sasha the clutch.

Thankfully the duo won’t have to face the challenges alone they will be joined by her adopted father Dominicous and Toa as well as the shifters. However things aren’t all great at the council, there are those who hope to take Sasha for their own. As well as a few prisoners holding grudges. When Stefan is kidnapped by their past it’s up to Sasha to save him. Will the council accept them? What about the shifters? Will Sasha find Stefan before the past catch up with them?

I really like Sasha she’s living in a world of fantasy but she’s taking to it really well and found what she was always missing in life. She’s found the family she never had as well as love. She’s come a long way from the mage who couldn’t learn from classes growing with each novel. I love Stefan he’s the idea hero in any book even if she gets the save the day they work well as a team. I also love a lot of the supporting characters like Charles, Anna, Tim, Toa, Dominicous and of course Jonas he’s grown on me.

The Council is the 5th installment in the Darkness series and very well might be my favorite of the series so far. I like the unique spin on the vampire concept at least they don’t’ sparkle like other vampires. I also like the integration of the witches, shapeshifters, demons, and mages. The council is an action packed novel loaded with steamy moments and fighting. It’s a quick read and easy to finish in a few short hours. I can’t wait to see what will happen next to Sasha and Stefan now that his people are starting to accept her. It does hint at adult situations but I think the author had done a tasteful job conveying the story. I honestly love the characters and the story my only complaint is they are to quick I want longer books because I enjoy the world they live in.

Last book was a little too slow for me, but this installment was fast-paced and action packed from start to finish.

The growth Sasha has showed throughout the series is outstanding.

So no cliffhanger here. In the last book we were pretty much set also but we knew that at some point Stefan and Sasha would have to be introduce, read judged, tortured, vetted, by the council, immortal mages (vampires) that are of high power, usually white. Dominicous has claimed Sasha as daughter so he will be along and is also being judged for a higher position, one that would be on the council. Stefan would then be in line for his regional position of power. Of course all this will be based on whether they survive and even want the new status.

So there is a lot of politics in this one and many that are trying to usurp the top position. Some want Sasha in order to gain more power, and others want to challenge Stefan to keep him for gain power. Also if they can kill Stefan then they think they could bond Sasha to take her power. What is clear is the most powerful of these immortals, doesn't have a clue as to what it would take to control Sasha or the loyalty she has garnered of her guards.

Along with politics that was not to bad or lengthy, this suffered from a lack of togetherness of Stefan and Sasha. They were always in opposite places, fighting different battles and coming together in the aftermath. We didn't get to see them work together or how there abilities merged. Instead we got there strength apart from one another. They did have sex but we didn't get the connection. If you hadn't read the books before it, you would not understand the connection at all. Of course if you hadn't read the books before, you would not understand the situation either. This is not a standalone but it does come to a nice, non cliffhanger ending.
Spoiler With Stefan proposing marriage at the end.
. It could have easily been the end of the series.

A roller coaster of emotions!

I anticipated the trip to meet the Council being intense. But I didn't guess just how intense! I loved this addition to the Darkness series! I hope to see more Ann, Charles, and Jonas banter in the following books! 10/5 stars!

Ive learned to really love this series

This is one of the best books of this series so far. It’s really awesome to see how far everyone has come.
