As with any anthology there are hits and misses, but I'm not sure this has as many hits as I would have liked. I donated to the kickstarter for this a while ago as it seemed interesting.

I didn't buy this because I thought I was going to love all of the stories, I bought it to support the idea behind it,a celebration of women in the comics industry.
And I got exactly what I was expecting.
I really enjoyed looking at the artwork, some of it was stunning and all of it was much better than anything I could draw.
I didn't enjoy the stories quite as much, but they only had a few pages each so you can't expect to enjoy them all.
I hope the ladies behind this project are happy with what they have achieved, it is a lovely book.

Lots of interesting stories throughout, some I def wish were longer. I do think due to the volume of the book a few of the sections suffered. Overall I enjoyed it and I also found a few new women authors whose work I should check out.

So many good comics! So many good creators! I don‰ЫЄt even know where to start.

It‰ЫЄs a fantastic collection of creativity! There‰ЫЄs so much in this 300+ pages, it‰ЫЄs almost overwhelming. Comics, profiles, ‰ЫПHow To‰ЫЄs‰Ыќ. It might be better to keep this tome on your shelf and take it down from time to time. It might be better in doses rather than trying to binge the whole thing at once.

Either way, check it out.

Womantholoy: Space and Womanthology: Heroic are collections of short stories (in the graphic novel format) by female graphic novelists, artists, and cartoonists. They provide a broad array of different styles, tastes, and formats. I really enjoyed sampling each of the different authors: how they drew, wrote, and coloured their stories. The collections are separated by topic (note the subtitles “space” and “heroic”) that create an over-arching theme. These themes can then by explored in a variety of ways be the different artists.

Most of the stories in this book were written and drawn well, and the overall content was interesting enough to keep my attention. It was nice, for once, to be able to read a comic book and not have to roll my eyes every 30 seconds at how the female anatomy was drawn and posed. The variety of storytelling and art styles were also awesome.

I am all for having more women in the comic book industry but this book makes no sense. It's a waste of a good idea.

I was ultimately disappointed by this large anthology of comics written by women. Although I was impressed with many of the authors and artists contributions to the book, they were often dragged down by stories that weren't quite there yet and art that lacked the quality set by other artists.

My feeling is that due to the web-forum based, facebooky construction of the graphic anthology, it became more like setting one's Stumble to comics and then clicking through at random. Some of the stories lacked coherency, it felt like the reader was just dropped into a situation with no prior knowledge of story or characters - and no explanation was given. Some were just one panel illustrations that seemed out of place amongst the unthematic comics surrounding them.

I feel that this was more due to the various editors than the artists and writers themselves. There were areas where I felt if only slight change was made the whole would have been much improved.

If the editing had been a bit more critcal, I think this would have been more of a success. Sometimes details were left out of illustrations, toe nails in one illustration would have taken it from bizarre to spot on. Other times there were unclear jumps in the panels, a close up that wasn't linked to the original object so that it became a puzzle to figure out.

Overall, like using Stumble, sometimes I was impressed by what I saw, other times I just clicked again. There are authors/artists to watch in here, but it's a bit of a muddle trying to find them.

Prelim Review: While this isn't a perfect book, this is a book to be damned proud of. This isn't just an anthology of short comics and pin-ups with a glib theme of 'Women Empowerment' or a collection of stories that prove women are as cool as men (if not cooler). This is a book filled with stories about characters who face problems every girl goes through and yeah sometimes superpowers or magic helps to make things better, but it just as easily comes down to whether that young girl or woman is brave enough to embrace the ability to make a change.

I've been reading this off and on for a while, very interesting and I want more by several of the creators.
