I'm not a big fan of ghost stories... I'll say that right of the bat. I mean how could they have a happy ending...ugh. They are dead and dead don't come back to life. So if your looking for a book to be sad over...here it is. I don't even attempt to read books that are in this category, but if you enjoy them try Karen Whites tradd street series. That's a fun series. This was good but amazingly sad.In compliance with FTC guidelines, I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads.

This final book in the Hereafter trilogy had all the same elements of the first two that made me like them so much. I found this one a bit harder to follow. Amelia, true to form, came up with her own plans to save the day but in this volume I found it hard to follow along as she set all the pieces into place. I'm very impressed with how the book ended and what became of Amelia. To that end I'm very pleased.

The worst possible end to a series right here people. Maybe I grew out of this series but man. This was bad. It was far TOO LONG for that ending. Also disappointed that the epilogue didn’t go beyond five minutes past the last chapter. WTH.
I loved Amelia and Joshua’s relationship in the first two books and hoped that they would have received a better ending.

Though Elegy’s ending wasn’t exactly what I was hoping for the Hereafter series, it was one of the best novels I have read this year!

I was really enthralled by the conflict between Amelia and the Netherworld. The battle between good and evil was much more prevalent in this novel than either the first or second, which I liked. I enjoyed the threats the demons spewed. I was captured by the ultimatums and sacrifices Amelia faced. Elegy was so much darker and so much more thrilling, it kept me wondering what could possible happen next? What more could this poor girl go through?

Also, I loved Joshua and Amelia’s relationship. Their love was so strong, which is why, I think, I both loved and hated the ending. It’s so bitter sweet. But as I read the novel, I knew no real ‘happily ever after’ could come of Amelia and Joshua’s love. Not unless a major miracle occurred.

Hereafter has to be one of my all-time favorite series!! If you haven’t read it, I definitely recommend you add it to your list! It’s so well written and it will capture your heart!

I loved the first two books and was really looking forward to seeing how the trilogy ended. This is not the ending I wanted. At all. I'll leave it at that to avoid spoiling the ending for future readers.

An ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review. This did not influence my thoughts in any way.

The Hereafter Trilogy is a love story between Amelia (a ghost) and Joshua (a living boy). They are both very likable characters and I was rooting for them to overcome their obvious difficulties the whole time. I enjoyed reading their story. I don't want to give anything away, I hate spoilers, but I thought the ending was bittersweet. I was expecting it would go one way and it went a totally different way. I liked Elegy better than the first two books in the series and I'd be interested to read future books by Tara Hudson.
