I was immediately drawn to Nightbloom from its cover! The book is told in three parts, the first two parts being opposing versions/points of view. Part One began to drag for me but it immediately picked up in Part Two! Most of my questions ended up being answered in Part Two but I was left wanting more background on Akorfa’s mother.

Whose version will you believe?

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. #NetGalley #Nightbloom

An important story but it was about twice as long as it should have been. The Ghanan culture and family lifestyles were the highlight of this book and the story was so interesting but needed more editing!

This novel is beautiful. That’s the perfect way to describe it. It is beautifully written, the characters are very real and Medie tackles many relevant topics in one novel flawlessly: racism, womanhood, identity and African politics. At first I wasn’t very fond of the shift in POV, but I soon came to love it, it worked really well. I did not give it 5 stars as I found myself rather bored halfway through, but the change to Selasi’s POV was refreshing and brought me back in! I do want to highlight how beautiful and exquisite the writing is, very moving.
