Four short thriller novels, I liked them all although 'Aloft' was a bit slow. The others had a good pace and got right to the point.

Joe Hill absolutely channels Stephen King in his prime. Even his photo on the book jacket looks JUST like Stephen King's earlier photos. His writing is clever, creative, smart, interesting, funny. I _loved_ his last story, and the fact that he admitted it was a parody of another story that he had written. Anyone with the ability to make fun of his own writing is OK in my book! I've always loved Stephen King's shorter fiction, and Joe Hill follows in his footsteps. If you enjoy Stephen King - the classics, like The Dead Zone, The Stand - read Joe Hill!

Every one of these short novels grabbed my attention, in completely different ways. Joe Hill is strong on both characters and world building, and these books don't fit with what I would consider horror. Each is a look at our world, strong in story and thoughtful consideration.

Read these stories. I doubt they will disappoint.

Great collection; maybe Joe Hill's "Different Seasons."

"Rain" is good. "Loaded" and "Aloft" are great.

I really can't rate this one. I liked the first story (Snapshot)- though it reminded me of old Stephen King, but that's not a surprise. There are lots of similarities between Hill and King, and that's what I like about his books. Yes, I know they are father & son, but that doesn't always mean the stories will be similar. But I love those little bits of similarities between the two in the books, some of the writing styles and even sharing locations and characters. So, I liked the first one, even if it did seem to go on just a --little -- too long. But it's ok. No problems.

The second story (Loaded), I couldn't even finish. It was just not my type of story, and I had to skip it, unfinished. Again, I don't have a problem with that - not all books/stories are my type, and I'm ok with that. I won't hold that against him or his ratings.

The third story (Aloft) .... is odd. I'm not yet sure how I feel about it yet.

The fourth (Rain) is again one I'm not sure what I feel about.

Because of that, I don't feel like it's time to give it a star rating. I will continue to read Hill's books - after Heartshaped Box and NOS4A2, I'm hooked! - but Fireman and Stranger Weather aren't my type.

Hill reads Neil Gaiman -as well as some of my other favorites- how can I not like him? :)

So glad I read this even though the critics panned it. I enjoyed all the stories but the first one was my favorite. He's turning out to be a much better author than his father. All the best of Stephen King without his hyperbole. What an imagination!
