A really strong start to the series, but truthfully stands very well on its own as a complete, punchy, well told story. There are a few small moments where the pacing slows down a bit too much for my taste, but largely the pacing is very good. I last read the book when I was in middle school and I didn’t expect it to hold up to rereading as an adult, but it proved me wrong very successfully. I feel I can’t comment on the characters much because I know my perception of them is formed by much more than just this book alone.

The world building is really great and also the plot keeps you intrigued even when there’s less action.
I liked Katniss as the main character. She’s brave and smart, just a natural leader that people can learn from.
If you enjoyed watching the movie or just want to start a new series, I think The Hunger Games is great!!

It’s been so years since I read the series and I have gotten a resurgence of my love. In someways I was at aw at my recollection with lines and in other parts it felt like the first time again. I was able to take in the words and be sucked in. Honestly an amazing read. I Peeta will always have a special place in my heart. Just a great character

I first read this series shortly after the final book was released, and re-reading it now in 2023, I'm just as impressed as ever. Collins has created an all-too believable dystopian world, complex characters, and a very exciting plot that makes me wish I could read faster to take it all in. The movies, while good, don't do the books justice with the depth of emotion depicted.
