Crush on a high school teacher trope - the age gap and power gap is always concerning

This was... an odd one. My feelings about this are a little mixed, but that’s fine. The art style is beautiful and I am willing to continue on with this manga series, despite my mixed feelings.

Initial thoughts:

1. Wonderful artwork!
2. I love stories about teacher-student relationships!
3. This not only has romance in it, but it's also about building friendships.
4. Sensei is adorable and I ship him with Suzume!
5. I cannot wait to see the story develop.

I feel like this had the potential to be cute but then it had her teacher (who is 24) as one of her love interests (she’s 15). That’s just not a vibe for me.

“Like the star from that time, though I know I won't be able to get it, I'm attracted to it. The name of this feeling... I've already realized it myself.”

So flipping good!! This was honestly such a breathe of fresh air, and it couldn't have come at a better time. I've had barely any desire to read the last few weeks (which is a long time for me; I usually read at least a book or two each week, even more if it's manga), but after reading this volume, I finally feel excited about a story and all of the characters.

The main reason I was even interested in picking this up (other than the fact that I'm apparently trash for shoujo) was because of the film adaptation, and how much I enjoyed that. The premise is pretty basic for the genre, but it's handled so well; the characters have so much personality, and there's some really funny, yet heart-poundingly romantic scenes (thankfully no insta-love though). Basically I'm telling you to pick this up right now lolol.

P.S. If you like this manga, you have to watch the movie. It's very accurate to the story, and the acting is superb. I absolutely loved it!

While I think Suzume is a breath of fresh air in terms of romance manga protagonists, I'm not down for her teacher being a love interest. Just, no. Please no.

But I love Yuyuka and how FUCKING MANIPULATIVE she is! Damn, she's a blast and I love her interactions with Suzume! I do like Mamura and would like to learn more about him.

A rough start, but if they remove the teacher as a love interest, I'm in.
