So this was short and for me, a bit odd. Almost like the tendrils of the story are flailing in the wind and I am trying to catch them so that I can really engage with the characters. Starts off with one character lying on the snow covered grass watching the snow fall - so my first thoughts - oh he is hurt, oh is he autistic, oh has he hurt himself -WHY THE HELL IS HE LYING ON THE GRASS IN THE SNOW. Anyway, Kade and Byron are long time friends. They love each other but Byron has sort of rejected Kade. Through a holiday celebration with family, cooking together and gift giving, they find each other. Maybe I needed more story to make it gel for me. Like the writing. Sort of lyrical. Will look up this author's longer works. I have to say that I applaud those writers who do short stories. Harder, it seems, to make a story blossom in a few short pages. This was almost there....
