Not his best, but fun if you have read his other Governor Towee books. There's some excellent black lab scenes.

Best way to describe this: the sit-com of books. Meh.

i'm not sure if i count this as 'read' since it was my first audio book experience, but i'm going to anyway. please allow that to serve as a disclaimer. i initially had trouble getting into this - i felt like it was all over the shop, geographically and narratively, but it still didn't feel as if it wasn't without purpose. so i kept listening and soon became interested, perhaps hooked for a minute. there is plenty of bizarre characterization, plus a good overall message - particularly for anyone surrounded by developers and insensitive types. it was sort of an evil poke at the 'wrong' people - definitely satirical. my first hiassen novel, fyi.

Humorous book. I think I've read Hiaasen before. He's not as good as Christopher Moore (or at least this particular piece wasn't), but it's still a fun, light read. The story involves a quirky eco-vigilante (named Twilly), a lobbyist & his wife, a Toyota salesman turned governor, and a gangster turned real estate developer. Twilly is fighting against the development of a pristine Florida island into a man-made 'paradise' full of high rises, golf courses, and a complete lack of wildlife.

A familiar topic with Hiaasen books, Sick Puppy, is also about Florida's environment. Starting off with highway chase, the book's hero can't stand people who dump trash out of their vehicle. We also have endangered animals being hunted, horns being used for Chinese miracle erection powder. Condos and golf courses development. This is Skink #4.

" Are you a manhunter?"
"More like a shit scraper," the visitor replied, "and I'm starting with you."
"Look, I'll tell you the whole story, everything, but first let me towel off and put on some clothes. Please."
"Nope. You stay right there. In my experience, men who are buck naked and scared nutless tend to be more forthcoming. They tend to have better memories. So let's hear your sad doggy story."

This book was cute - about an ecoterrorist and his insane fanatical ways to try to get people to stop polluting. Complete with an epilogue that wrapped up all lose points (except for those of the main characters, which I thought was a little weird). It was insane, but in a funny, entertaining way.

Eh. I just didn't think this book was very good. Not particularly funny, not particularly interesting, and a little boring.

This was pretty good up until near the end, where it became very good. I thought it was really funny during the Rhino hunt, especially the dog's POV. That part alone was worth reading the whole book for me.

All in all, this was a satisfying read because most of the people got what they deserved, at least the bad guys. I think perhaps the good guys also, but we don't get all the details. I liked it enough to read more by Carl Hiaasen. This is the final book of the Skink series, but there are a few more that I'll probably try.
