✨ 3.5 / 5 STARS ✨

I enjoyed this book! It really reminded me that death always follows life and to really make the most out of this life I have now.

I can’t imagine the emotions I would have if I got a call saying this will be my last day. But this book really envisioned peace with that thought.

This is an emotional, endearing, if a little underwhelming story of friendship, love, and living life to the fullest with the time you have left. The concept of the story grabbed me instantly (I'm a sucker for books that make you feel your feels), but the follow-through was a bit lacking.

In the near future, people receive notifications on the day of their death from a company called Death Cast. To ease the shock and pain of having 24 hours to live, an app call Last Friend will pair you up with a companion to spend your final day with. Rufus and Mateo are both spending their final day on Earth together, and while fate seems to have thrust these two very different individuals together, they forge a friendship and make memories to last the rest of their limited lifetime. Told in alternating voices (and also with a 3rd narrator who provides snippets of various supporting characters), their journey will capture your heart.

Part of the story dragged on for me, and some of it was just so sad (so much tragedy had befallen both characters). I wish a few of the supporting stories had more payoff, but this is a book where you know what you're getting into, so the adventure is half the fun.

An emotional read! This book made me want to value the life that I have more. It made me feel grateful for having been able to see yet another day. This book also gives us the message that one should try to spend their time doing things they will be able to cherish when their time is near. It also encourages the idea that a person should take risks in their life and experience everything they want to. It encourages the readers to do small deeds of kindness, as even the smallest of things can have significant impacts. Both the main characters rubbed off on each other. By the end of this book, I was in tears but happy that the main characters got to spend the time that they had to the fullest.
